Injection instructions for your medication

To administer a subcutaneous injection for medication purposes, follow these step-by-step instructions:

Step 1: Start by gathering your supplies: a clean syringe and needle, the medication, and alcohol wipes. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Use an alcohol wipe to clean the top of the medication vial. Review the prescription label on the medication vial to ensure you understand clearly the correct dosage for you and how to read the correlating measurement on your syringe.

Injecting Medication

REMEMBER, even if your vial is only partially full, DO NOT draw more medication than your prescribed dose. Your medication may be prescribed to last for the entire month.

Step 2: Drawing your medication from the sterile vial. Remember, even if your vial is only partially full, DO NOT draw more medication than your prescribed dose. Your medication may be prescribed to last for the entire month.

Hold the vial upside down and insert the needle fully, ensuring no air bubbles are in the syringe. Pull back the plunger to draw the correct amount of medication into the syringe. Remove the needle from the vial and be careful not to let the needle touch anything. For extra precaution you can put the syringe cap back on. 

Step 3: Prepare the injection site. Your medication comes with detailed directions about injection site options (abdominal wall fat, thigh, or back of upper arm). Clean site area with an alcohol wipe and waiting for it to dry. 

Step 4: injecting the medication. Hold the syringe like a pencil, tap the middle to remove any air bubbles. Pinch your skin in the cleaned area from Step 3. Insert the needle at a 45-degree angle into the pinched skin. And slowly push the plunger down to inject the medication. Once the medication is administered, remove the needle slowly. Apply gentle pressure with a clean bandage or gauze for a few seconds.

Cap the used syringe and safely dispose in a hard plastic container to prevent injury or reuse. Do not reuse or share needles.
